Poker Strategy Basics |
To start talking about poker
strategy it’s necessary to quote David
Sklansky’s fundamental theorem of poker. The theorem states:
Every time you play your hand in the way you would play if you could
see all your opponents' cards, you gain and every time you playing a
different way, you lose. Actually, that’s it about poker
strategy. The rest is mathematics, skill and luck.
Though let’s go in some more details. One thing to keep in
mind, when playing poker online or in a base casino, is poker odds.
Online poker odds are really the relation between odds of winning and
pot odds. So, if a player must call x dollars to get a 4x pot, the pot
odds make 4 to 1 and for positive expectations player's odds of winning
must be better than 4 to 1. More skilled players also consider possible
pot size at the end of the hand (so called implied odds) in their poker
betting strategy.
Another important factor is deception. There are two ways of deception:
bluffing – playing as if you have a stronger hand than you
do, and a slow-playing – betting weakly with a very strong
hand. The poker betting strategy of deception is directly connected
with our theorem as by deception players try to play in a wrong way.
If you already feel confused it may be a good idea to see it in
practice. Not to spend too much of your budget for no deposit poker
bonus and look for participation in some online poker tournaments as a
novice. Don’t worry if you don’t win at once and
don’t forget to enrich your game with some new poker strategy
tips from time to time. Good luck!
